I probably shouldn’t say much more than that at this point.
Just grab a drink, get comfortable and enjoy the view of the world at 4am on 4th April!
So, it’s the day after the morning before and I’m still catching up on the wonderful photo submissions from participants from countries such as Australia, UK, USA, Portugal, India, Philippines, Brazil, Canada, and Korea to name just a few! Over 1100 images of 4am have been submitted from 4th April alone!
THANK YOU to everyone who set their alarms or stayed up to meet 4am and took part in the project. Your support & enthusiasm has been amazing! I’ve had some great feedback from you, and it really means a lot.
This event marked the 4am Project’s first birthday and it is going from strength to strength. With the addition of help in the form of investment from 4ip and Screen West Midlands, the 4am Project has been able to reach out to even more people around the world!
I’m really delighted that there are 4am Project photo walks popping up with people wanting to get together at 4am on 4th April! It’s great because it means the online 4am Project community are also meeting offline and in person too!
I am hoping to get something in place to make this easier for people arrange for future 4am Project dates. First thought is a dedicated page on the website where people can add their towns/cities and photo walk details. Please bear with me on that!
In the meantime is a list of towns and people that are holding, or want to get together with other 4am folks, along with their contact details. IF YOU WISH TO ADD TO THIS LIST GET IN TOUCH & I WILL UPDATE IT Tweet Me or email me hello@4amproject.org
You may have noticed that the 4am Project logo has had a bit of a make over! Big thank you to Steve from Debut Creative graphic design studio for coming up with a great design! Lovely to work with you Steve.
The 4am Project also has a twibbon! Thank you Mark! Add it to your twitter avatar & help spread the word about the 4am Project! Have a play around with it, you can position it however you would like
To celebrate the 4am Project’s first birthday there are some great prizes that have been donated by Nikon, Photocreator and Moo!
Not long now until 4am on the 4th April. Get ready to join other photographers from around the world!
What better way to follow up with the 4am Project’s fabulous news, than by featuring just a few of the fabulous 4am photographers who have taken part in the project during the last year!
Some may call us crazy, but I prefer to think that we are adventurous!
What is 4am like for you?
Will you take a self portrait?
Perhaps it’s a time to be reflective. The quietness of 4am lends itself nicely to that.

It’s been an exciting week, and I am delighted to be able to announce that 4ip and Screen West Midlands are supporting the 4am Project!
4ip is part of Channel 4 which helps to support and invest in digital media enterprises, and Screen West Midlands offers support, advice and funding for film, television and digital media.
4ip and Screen West Midlands investment and business support is a great boost for the 4am Project which will soon entering it’s second year! (My, how time flies!)
To the question that we always address when we announce a new investment, why 4iP? For me the 4am Project is a collaborative project that takes art to the mainstream; everyone has a camera, whether you’re passionate about your darkroom, or snapping something on a mobile phone, we are now able to capture every minutiae of our busy lives and share them with the wider world. The element of the 4am Project that really works for me is its focus. What do people see at a particular time on a particular day? At its core this is a project that is about collaboration, participation and discoverability. It’s also an example of an existing site that fits with our criteria beautifully. In order to continue to grow and capitalise on the success that it’s already achieved, the 4am Project needed both financial and business support. Through an initial project investment we’re able to help take Karen and her project to the next stage and a wider audience.
Along with the support from 4ip and ScreenWM, the outcome and ideas generated at the Crossover Lab course I attended recently and my own plans, it’s going to be a very busy and creative year!
I’ve got stuck in already and my days are whizzing past with uber productivity. This productivity is taking the form of lots of; phone calls, emails, meetings, tweeting, blogging, phone calls & emails. I’m enjoying meeting new people, whether that be online or in person. Connecting with people who love the idea of the 4am Project and want to help support it and people who have their own projects & dreams that they are working on which creates inspiration.
Last April I made a video (well, three videos actually!) about how the 4am Project started, how I spread the word, the help I received and problems encountered (and overcome!).
On the 4th Arpil 2010 the 4am Project will be celebrating it’s first birthday! Why not try something different, join other photographers from around the globe and take a photograph of your world at 4am! Get your friends involved, go on a 4am photo walk, explore your neighbourhood at an often unseen time!
If you would like to support the project by sponsorship, donating prizes for participants or you would like to contribute an idea, it would be great to hear from you. Drop me a line hello@4amproject.org or get in touch on twitter.

Somewhere in the world on 4th April at 4am the sun will be rising. The birds will be singing their morning song, and a brand new day will begin.
Just a few things to remember when submitting your photos of 4am…….
Please do not hide the properties of your photographs. Hidden properties mean I can not verify that the images were taken in the hour of 4am, 04:00-04:59 on the 4th April in your local time. Please embrace the spirit of the 4am project.
When submitting your photos via flickr, please put your name and location in the TITLE of the picture so that people can see straight away in what part of the world you picture was taken.
If you emaill your image to me, please include your name and location. I will then upload your photo to the 4am Project’s flickr account. Pictures can be sent to: 4amproject@googlemail.com
If there is a story behind the picture it would be great if you could write a little bit to go along with the image. You don’t have to though, but it would be nice.
I think that’s it for now! If I think of anything else I’ll blog about it tomorrow.
If you would like to see more of Elsa’s photos, please visit her photostreamon flickr.
Elsa says:
“At 4am 11 June…moment of admiring the moon… at the apartment…my view in my bedroom…”
If you are wondering what photo to take next weekend at 4am, why not try the view from your house, or a self portrait?
Something to remember:If you haven’t got a flickr account and want to submit your 4am photo(s) via flickr, please sign up as soon as possible for a free account. This is because flickr impose a few days delay between new accounts and when photos can feed through to the 4am website. To find out more about using flickr, please visit this page.
Alternatively, you may email your photos directly to me, and I will upload them to the 4am Project’s flickr account. 4amproject(@)googlemail.com
Please remember to include the town/city and country you are in (preferably in the title of the photo) as well as your name of course! If there is a story behind the picture, it would be great to hear about it.
If you have any questions, please send me an email 4amproject(@)googlemail.com, or send me a tweet on twitter http://www.twitter.com/4amproject
I am organising a 4am photo walk in my hometown (Birmingham, UK), perhaps you could do the same! See if your friends and family would like to join in too.
