I had 24 prizes in total and selected my favourite 24 4am photographs out of over 1500 that were submitted from around the world! Everyone was invited to vote for the photo they liked the best. NEWS JUST IN! Birmingham UK 4am event!

The 4am Project will be hosting a special 4am event this Saturday 24th April (at 4am!) on behalf of the Birmingham City of Culture bid!

The event will take place at Birmingham Museum Collections Centre. This is a rare opportunity to photograph the wealth of archived articals and artifacts that are not on show to the public at the Birmingham Museum. From classic motor vehicals, to stuffed animals and interesting curiosities! It’s a huge place, with plenty to see and photograph. The Museums Collection centre usually only lets the public in 2 or 3 times a year, and have been kind enough to open it’s doors to the 4am Project this Saturday!

From the Birmingham Museum Collections Centre website:

The 1.5 hectare site, close to Duddeston Station, holds hundreds of thousands of objects. Among the collections are steam engines, sculptures, an entire collection of Austin, Rover and MG motor cars, a red phone box and even a Sinclair C5

THERE ARE ONLY 30 TICKETS AVAILABLE on this occasion. Get your tickets now, first come, first served, and don’t forget to set your alarm clocks!

What was fantastic this year was that even more photographers wanted to get together and meet up with other people in their areas and take part in a 4am photo walk! I did my best to try and help orchestrate that and put people in touch with eachother, but I’m hoping to have a dedicated page put on the website so people can add their towns/cities and add their names, which I think will really help everyone to get in touch with eachother for next time.

I am going to blog about those walks, and first up is the 4am photo walk that I organised in my home city of Birmingham, UK.

Birmingham is actually one of the finalists for the UK’s City Of Culture 2013 along side Derry/Londonderry, Norwich and Sheffield. Thanks go out to Birmingham City Of Culture bid team for helping to organise the opening of Birmingham’s Museum and Art Gallery.

It was quite a chilly morning but 23 hardly photographers turned up in time for 4am armed with their cameras and tripods.

 The first (and third) videos were made by the City Of Culture team & it was a video that went out to announce the ‘Night At The Museum’ The 2nd video is one I made and I asked participants how they had heard about the 4am Project and if they enjoyed themselves!

So, it’s the day after the morning before and I’m still catching up on the wonderful photo submissions from participants from countries such as Australia, UK, USA, Portugal, India, Philippines, Brazil, Canada, and Korea to name just a few! Over 1100 images of 4am have been submitted from 4th April alone!

THANK YOU to everyone who set their alarms or stayed up to meet 4am and took part in the project. Your support & enthusiasm has been amazing! I’ve had some great feedback from you, and it really means a lot.

This event marked the 4am Project’s first birthday and it is going from strength to strength. With the addition of help in the form of investment from 4ip and Screen West Midlands, the 4am Project has been able to reach out to even more people around the world!

As with every competition, there are some rules – boo! So here are the Ruley bits – I’ll keep it short and sweet.

RULES:

• Photographs must be taken on 4th April 2010 between the hours of 4am-5am & be tagged ‘4amproject’ on flickr.  You can find information on how to submit your photographs here.
• Please upload your 4am photos by Sunday 11th April if you wish to be entered into the competition.
• To keep things as simple as possible, I (Karen Strunks) will be selecting the 24 photographs I like the best. Take a picture of whatever inspires you, there are no rules in that respect. My decision is final.
• I will put the selected 24 photographs on the 4am project blog after the 11th of April and invite people to vote for their favourite image. Which ever photograph has the most votes, will win first prize and so forth.
• If you really do not want to take part in the competition let me know. You can drop me an email hello@4amproject, or tweet me @4amproject & I will exclude your images from the competition.
• You will be given online codes to collect prizes from Photocreator.co.uk & Moo.com.  
• Copyright in all images submitted for this competition remains with the respective entrants. The 4am project will only use the winning images for promotion in connection to this competition for a period of no longer than five years. Where an image is used, the photographer will be credited.
• The first prize is one D90 + 18-105mm VR Kit (model subject to availability). No cash alternative to the prize will be offered and the prize is not transferable.
• The promoter’s decision is final and binding. No correspondence will be entered into. Entry implies acceptance of these rules.
• There will be one winner of the Nikon camera who will be notified by telephone or email within 28 days of the closing date. Delivery of prize to be arranged after this notification.
• Nikon UK reserves the right to substitute the prize to an equal or greater value should circumstances make this necessary.
• This draw is being operated from the UK and is governed by English Law
