“Woke up about 4am with sick stomach, and took this shot.”

It’s a shame that Wojtek woke up not feeling well, but at least he was well enough to take this great photo!

This image uses HDR or high dynamic range.

Wikipedia says:

HDR is a set of techniques that allows a greater dynamic range of luminances between light and dark areas of a scene than normal digital imaging techniques. The intention of HDRI is to accurately represent the wide range of intensity levels found in real scenes ranging from direct sunlight to shadows. This method was developed to produce a high dynamic range image from a set of photographs taken with a range of exposures.

Basically, you take several (at least 3) shots of the same scene. Each shot need to have a different exposure; for example one over exposed, one normal, and one under exposed. You can take more than 4 photos, some people use 10 or more. It’s important to use a tripod as each shot needs to be identical so that the HDR software can align the pictures to create one picture. You will need some HDR software too. I believe it can be done on photoshop, or if you search online for ‘hdr software’ you will find lots available, some of which are free.

There’s only two weeks to go until 4th April at 4am!
